Storytelling evenings with Correctiv Exile

Correctiv Exile had been hosting panel discussions with exiled journalists and artists for some time. The evenings were meaningful and insightful, but people often left the room heavy, simply because the topics are heavy. So the question became: how do we keep the sincerity and the urgency, but make it more human? With room for lightness and connection, without downplaying anyone's experience?

The answer was stories. Together with Esther, they've curated two evenings so far, with a third on its way. Esther coaches the speakers, helping them find their story and bring it to life on stage. She also advises on the evening as a whole: the script, the moderators, a side programme with an exhibition, and audience interaction.

Journalists are trained to give everything away in the first sentence. Here, they learn to craft a story that makes an audience lean in, get curious, follow them on a journey, and connect with them as a human.

  • "Your advice truly shaped my story and made it more engaging, natural and heartfelt. Thank you for helping me find my voice on that stage."

    Mushtaq Naseri, journalist in exile

  • "I'm the person who avoids big crowds and public performances, but I made it, and that was great. With the coaching sessions, my story started to sound understandable for others."

    Lera, artist in exile

  • "Attentive, delicate, sincere and professionally done: the perfect balance between expertise and emotional involvement."

Olga Bubich, writer, journalist and visual artist

  • "She helped me shape my piece and bring the audience to the stage with me, and still have my own wording and my own story."

    Nazeeha Saeed, journalist in exile
